Treating with the AQUAMANTYS® System
Technique as described by Philip Ireland, M.D.
Treat until you obtain the appropriate tissue effect (tissue color changes from pink to tan).
Broad areas may be treated with a painting motion, while isolated soft tissue or bone bleeders can be spot treated.
- Treat the posterolateral and medial corners of the knee joint after making all cuts.
- Treat the posterior capsule as well as the branches of the geniculates.
- Treat the periphery where the meniscus was attached.
- Treat behind the femoral condyles and behind the tibia.
- Treat cut bone surfaces on femur which will not be covered by the implant.
- Treat exposed bone behind the tibial baseplate.
- Treatment time for bone surfaces is approximately four (4) times longer than for soft tissue.
- After tourniquet is released, prior to closing, spot treat soft tissue as well as bone bleeders.
- Put knee through full range of motion after cement has hardened. Spot treat any remaining bleeders.
To ensure optimal patient benefits, certain areas should not be treated with the AQUAMANTYS® System:
- Skin & superficial subcutaneous tissue
- Near neural tissue
- Bone to be covered by an implant
- Medial patellar retinaculum
- Patellar tendon
- Quadriceps tendon
- Lateral patellar
- Retinaculum
- Other ligaments and tendons
